Dane Liu believes in the power of stories to affirm, transport, and transform. Her new release LAOLAO’S DUMPLINGS is “Moving” (Publishers Weekly, starred review) and “Superb” (Horn Book Magazine, starred review). It has been selected by the Society of Illustrators for the Original Art Show, an annual exhibition of the year’s finest children’s books. This summer, it will be featured at the National Book Festival in Washington D.C. as a “2024 Great Reads” by the Library of Congress and the Oregon Center for the Book. Her debut for young readers FRIENDS ARE FRIENDS, FOREVER is a Junior Library Guild Gold Standard Selection, a Kids’ Indie Next pick, and a best of the year from the Bulletin of the Center for Children’s Books. Her nonfiction picture book AMAZING: ASIAN AMERICANS AND PACIFIC ISLANDERS WHO INSPIRE US ALL, cowritten with Olympic Medalists Maia and Alex Shibutani, has been featured on ABC News, NBC News, and CBS Mornings. Dane is a 2023 Oregon Book Award winner and an 2022 Oregon Literary Career Fellow. As a writer, she hopes to inspire young people to see the beauty of their own stories and the power of sharing them.
