As a kid growing up in Charlottesville, Virginia, Hillary Homzie understood how to build a fort in the woods, read under the covers, and playact complex scenarios involving poisoned acorns and orphans. However, she never mastered good comebacks to bullies or how to be cool in middle school, so she studied what she didn’t know, and now writes about it.
Hillary’s humorous books for kids (with plenty of funny comebacks) include Queen of Likes, Things Are Gonna Get Ugly, The Hot List, Pumpkin Spice Secrets, Apple Pie Promises, Alien Clones From Outer Space and the Ellie May chapter books. She has been working with Kate the Chemist on her young middle grade series, has her debut picture book due out soon, and is working on a science fiction fantasy for upper middle grade readers.
During the summer, she teaches at Hollins University Graduate Program in Children’s Literature. She also blogs for the Mixed Up Files of Middle Grade Authors. She currently lives in Napa, California with her family.
