Mauricio Montiel Figueras is a prize-winning writer of fiction and nonfiction, as well as a renowned poet, translator, editor, and film and literary critic. His short story, Photophobia, was included in an anthology of Mexican speculative writers published by Kelly Link's Small Beer Press, Three Messages and a Warning (2012). His most recent work was developing two experimental novels entirely generated through social media titled The Woman of M and The Man in Tweed. English excerpts of these appeared in literary journals Catamaran Literary Reader and Fiction (translated by Suzanne Jill Levine). His writing has been published in journals around the world, and he also served for three years as Mexico’s National Coordinator for Literature. He has been appointed resident writer for the Cheltenham Literature Festival in England, the Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center in Italy, the Hawthornden Retreat for Writers in Scotland, and the Saari Residence in Finland. He lives and works in Mexico City.
