Picture books were Karen’s first love, but she took a detour with architecture and urban planning. When she began reading to her children, the joy of picture books was rekindled.
She is drawn to layered images that encourage discovery, complex subject matter like grief and aging, and stories that explore the Asian American experience.
She is a member of the Society of Children’s Books Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), and lives in the San Francisco Bay Area in California with my family.
Her forthcoming picture book is TEA LEAF EGGS (Holiday House, 2026).
